The past couple years the Dutch underground scene is steadily rising again. Many acclaimed death and black albums have seen the light of day recently and one the bands that emerged from the lively Dutch scene is Salacious Gods’. Their debutalbum Askengris was well-received by fans & press and their new album is clear statement of the band’s continious progression. It shows their capability of composing blackmetal songs that contain the necessary ingredients of tension, aggression and atmosphere. Add to this a clear production in which keyboards and guitars are balanced in a way that both instruments can come to their fullest right. | |
The atmospheric elements created by the keys do not interfer with the sharp edges provided by the guitars. And these things combined ensure that the listener won’t easily lose his/her attention and will surely discover and appreciate true blackmetal gems like ‘At the Sound of the Midwinterhorn’ and ‘Dead, Spectral Wolfmoon’. The invoked grim atmosphere on Sunnevot is never artificial or overdone and surprising breaks and passages, for instance in ‘Soulbite’ and ‘Testify my Vanity’ keep the songs interesting from beginning to end. With this album Salacious Gods prove that the band is a serious competitor in the blackmetal elite. (Maura) |
