After reading the name and the title of this demo and looking at its cover I expected nothing else but some gory porn grind but the guys from Scrotum surprised me with 5 tracks of old fashioned death metal. Scrotum have been active ever since 1997 and “Woodenshoe Penetration” is only their first demo. A couple of line-up changes were to blame for this but with a steady line-up (including members from Warchitect and Judgment Day) they’re finally ready to kick some ass. After the recordings however the ‘steady’ line-up fell apart a little and drummer Jelle has already been replaced by Bono (no, not THAT Bono)

Like I said, it’s old fashioned death metal what they deliver and with some head banging quality too! Excellent banging material like “Genital Snatcher” and “Lager Beer” are fired upon us and I’m sure a live gig will bring you much pleasure and a sore neck (and a hangover the next day).

Vocalist Kevin does a nice job puking out the lyrics and his comrades are playing with much enthusiasm. Scrotum are not about playing as fast as humanly possible like so many bands are doing nowadays, they’re looking in the past for their inspiration and have come up with mid-tempo death metal that has that indefinable groove that makes you want to shake your hair and drink irresponsible amounts of beer.

Of course, the thing Scrotum do, has been done a thousand times already but a good record is a good record and with “Woodenshoe Penetration” they deliver a release they certainly can be proud of (especially since it’s their first) and should earn them some recognition in the scene
