After having to listen to the very disappointing ‘Dancing, Dreaming, Longing...’ by Dawn Desiree I was rather sceptic when I had to listen to another Fossil Dungeon release; ‘Eternal’ by Butterfly Messiah. There are quite some similarities between the two albums. Butterfly Messiah combines electronic pop, ambient themes and female vocals as does Dawn Desiree. The beautiful digi packaging of both albums is another resemblance. Nevertheless the differences between the albums are striking. The production and the sound of this ‘Eternal’ is pretty dynamic and is in huge contrast with the horrible flat sound on ‘Dancing, Dreaming, Longing.

..’.

The compositions on the first are more exciting, more theatrical and more progressive. The ambient beats and rhythms suit the delicate vocals of Shannon Lyn Garson very well, another difference with Desiree where vocals and music seem to have nothing to do with each other. Despite the fact that ‘Eternal’ is much better than ‘Dancing, Dreaming, Longing...’, I’m not totally convinced by these Americans. The compositions could be improved and the songs are depending too much on the high tech beats to exceed average.
