If you ask yourself where that strange name comes from, I can tell you that it’s from the grey-haired vocalist and founder of the band Udo Dirkschneider. Grey-haired? Yes indeed. If you look at some photos of this band, you wonder why they’re not in wheelchairs being spoon-fed by nurses. But forget that. It’s about the music, not about the looks.

So I did what I always do. Get a big bag of crisps, sit on my bed and push play. But it’s damn tough to write something good about this band! For example, vocalist Udo growls like a Smurf. Literally.
First track ‘Thunderball’ is good enough to listen to, but when ‘Pull The Trigger’ arrives, it all starts to irritate. The guitar solo in every song can’t save U.D.O. from falling in the big black hole called nothing. And when the CD played its first half, I’m seeing all those crazy blue creatures run through my room.

I’m not trying to be a dick here, but this record just makes me cry.
When ‘Hell Bites Back’ finished, I ran out of my room and puked in the toilet.

My opinion is that U.D.O. (completed by Lorenzo Milani (drums), Igor Gianola (guitar), Stefan Kaufmann (guitar) and Fitty Wienhold (drums)) did their time. For 18 years they exist now. And before those 18 years Udo was a vocalist in Accept. Well at least that’s one thing to be proud of. I don’t dare to say -the only thing to be proud of-, because I haven’t heard any other works of this band and I don’t have the intention to either, after listening to this.
So please, someone talk to them and say that grunting when your 50 is impossible, say that a guitar solo doesn’t automatically make your album good and if you’re visiting them, bring six spoons with you….
