Hysterical emocore on Ferret, operating under the Roadrunner Records flag: This is
Everytime I Die. Except for having a great band name, it is also a band with some future potential. With a personal sound, they created on Last Night In Town, an album released in 2002 filled with hardcore/screamo in the vein of Zao, Converge, but also with some influences of modern ‘emocore bands’ like Glassjaw and At The Drive In.
I have to say that this is one of the best emo/screamo albums I’ve heard in a long time. Singer Keith Buckley is mostly responsible for that. He really outs his emotions in a way Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw) normally ventilates his emotions. “What have become of the broken hearted? Dying for a second, a moment with a girl, but still the feeling you love to hate her.” That sums up the atmosphere on this album.
A song like “She’s My Rushmore” is one explosion. | |
I heard this song about a hundred times and it has some superb lyrics (“Thank you lord/for this oil slick/for her car wreck/for I’m lovesick”). It is the highlight of the album, lyrically as well as musically. During the first listening, you think there is no structure in the songs. The band just seems to play some riffs, the singer screams with no direct chorus or verse. But after listening to the album a few more times, you will see the value of this album. There is not always a certain structure, but it becomes more logical, and the screams are becoming recognisable. What a great evolution this band has made. I love to see them live, unfortunately I missed them on the ‘Morbid Angel’ tour, but I saw a live concert on video, and it’s not something you watch, it is something you will have to go through.
