First things first: every metal fan will hate this album. 1. Because of lyrics like: “Forget about the crucifix, my rising sign is 666” 2. Because it doesn’t get more nu-metal than this and 3. Because of the half-dressed bimbo with pentagrams on her bikini (but hey, it sells…)
Like I said; it doesn’t get more nu-metal than this. Drowning Pool is like Nickelback and Theory Of A Deadman. Very much the same. The nu-metal comparison was already clear after they released their previous album, Sinner.
Drowning Pool had a crazy career so far. In half a year they went from local band to world fame. Everything seemed to work out just right. They released Sinner, but tragedy struck.
Vocalist Dave Williams died and all shows were cancelled. There was nothing but silence around Drowning Pool. Until now. The band released a new album (with an almost unpronounceable title): Desensitized. My first thought: Yes, perhaps this is a good record. But now, after a while I realize I was happier with the silence. | |
The tracks “Think” and “Forget” are two of the dullest songs I ever heard. And the first single “Step Up” is so predictable it just hurts. The only songs that deserve to be called songs are “This Life” and “Love And War”. Still, these aren’t tracks that make you raise your fist, but they’re a LITTLE different from the rest of the album. Sinner wasn’t a legendary album either, but at least it had some good riffs, were Desensitized is very thin in that perspective. Too bad for the guitarist, because this man can really can. Just listen to the (2 second) solo’s on “Bringing Me Down” and “Cast Me Aside” and the intro of “Hate”. He deserves to be in a better band.
Damn, this album sucks. Drowning Pool died with Dave Williams. Don’t spend your hard earned cash on this, it is not worth it. But hey, who am I to say that? This album will probably hit the Billboard top 1 in no time…
