The band describe their music as ‘traditional doom metal in the vein of Sabbath and Wino’ and that’s absolutely spot on. And musically they’re good at it as well. The riffs are great, one or two maybe a little bit too obvious as they are ‘taken’ from their heroes, but that’s no problem. The sound is terrific; crunchy guitars, natural sounding drums and a heavy overall sound. The songs are well written, never too long and, for doom standards, pretty diverse.

So why only 6 out of 10 points then? It’s the vocals. Gabor Holdampf is overdoing it; he’s overacting. His voice as such isn’t that bad at all actually, but he’s trying so hard to sound desperate and depressed that it becomes pompous. A real pity because if he would hold back a bit, Wall Of Sleep would probably be one of my favourite doom bands. I hope I can get used to it but I doubt it.
