Evil Comes ... Alive is a recording of the second Forces Of Evil concert ever. One thing that immediately strikes you watching the DVD is that the video footage makes sort of a semi-professional impression. The footage itself is of fine quality, but the excessive use of extreme lights distorts most of the pictures (a lot of blues, reds and over-exposure). Strangely enough, this seems to suit the performance of the band perfectly and really sets a certain atmosphere. Forces Of Evil states that the DVD is a raw and unpolished documentary of pure and honest metal. The fact that the camera’s are quite static is compensated by the dynamic performance of the band and the fine editing. The only pictures I don’t like are the over-all shots where a third of the screen is covered with the backs of the people in the crowd. | |
The sound of the DVD is great, especially considering the fact that this was just the second live show ever. Only the lack of interaction between band members and the rather static crowd give you the impression of watching one of the bands first shows. The fact that the DVD only features 11 songs is well compensated by the bonus footage that features pictures of the first Forces Of Evil gig and an interview with subtitles. Evil Comes ... Alive is definitely worth checking out and proves that you don’t need a massive production and preparation to shoot the perfect DVD.
