Another year, a new cd from these death metal veterans. Should the fans be happy with that? I think partially. This record is an overwhelming explosion of brutal death metal and if you’re new to the scene, I think this will tear your soul. For all the fans who have followed these Florida monsters throughout the last 15 years, I think the only reason to buy this is to complete their Cannibal Corpse collection. What I want to say is, it’s nothing new. The band deliver 13 songs full of technical riffs, breaks and patterns. It’s all there, but I think they’ve forgotten to keep the songs catchy. They proved they are capable of writing catchy songs (“Hammer Smashed Face” , “Skull Full Of Maggots” , “Monolith”), but Cannibal Corpse 2004 are too focused on being technical in my opinion. | |
Although the first song “Severed Head Stoning” is absolutely awesome, just like “Cyanide Assassin” and “Nothing Left To Mutilate”. However, I much rather listen to their old school albums like Tomb Of The Mutilated. I’m not into that new school technical stuff. I’m sorry. Still, Cannibal Corpse keep delivering quality.
Last minute news: Jack Owen has left the band. One of the reasons is as he puts it himself: "After 15 years with Cannibal Corpse, I’ve decided to leave the group. My heart just wasn’t in it anymore, and it was reflected in my appearance on stage”. For more info check the News section on this site.
