After all the corny, spacy and far fetched concepts so popular among bands at the moment it’s a true revelation to listen to Orphan Project’s Orphan Found. The father of the Orphan Project is Shane Lankford. He translates his own experience, growing up as an adoptee, into a solid concept and strong lyrics. John Wenger is responsible for the music and the arrangements. He did a great job setting the right atmospheres for the storyline. He combines moving and expressive moods in an incredible melodic way.
The fact that both Shane and John are heavily influenced by progressive rock bands like Kansas (arrangements) and Yes (compositions) is quite obvious but the six piece band definitely has an own sound. | |
The production of the album is very professional and the use of studio players on violin and cello really paid off. I’ve been listening to the album for some time now, but still can’t find any points of negative criticism. The music, the sound, the concept and even the album cover are brilliant. The rumor goes the Inside Out is interested in signing this band. If I were them, I would not hesitate: these guys are the next big thing.
The album is available for only $15 at the bands website www.orphanfound.com. (Geert) |
