The fact that Mennen decided on “Above The Waterline” and the choice of “Down” as the b-side of the single caused some mixed feelings on my part. On the one hand both tracks are among my favourite songs on the album Freakazoid. The beauty of “Above The Waterline” lies in the simplicity of the track, in combination with the vocal harmonies, and “Down” is an absolute killer live. On the other hand I feel that the band (or the record company) made a misjudgement by releasing the ballad as a single and I would have preferred a live recording of “Down”, especially considering the fact that the album has already been released a couple of months ago.

This single might be a fine effort if it’s meant to give people a good impression of the band, but if the single is an attempt to gain chart success, I don’t give the band much chance.
