Instil is a band from Groningen, the Netherlands. It is not a new band, they already exist a few years and they made a mini-CD and a split-CD with the American band Kyds vs. Colombus. And this is they’re first full length. The first thing I noticed is that the sound of Instil is different than on Question Like Only Consciousness Can Question (the mini-CD). On the mini-CD it was hardcore and now it is more thrash/ metalcore. And they make it sound perfect.
If you hear the first song the melody stays in your head for a few days, so that’s already a perfect start. The song has some good mosh parts. The fourth song on the album is called “Fire Reflects In Ashes”, like the CD. The song has some cool piano outro or it is a piano intro for the next song, “Time Love And Memories”, I’m not sure where it belongs but it sounds great. “Time Love And Memories” also have some good mosh parts in the song. Further on the album there are almost only good songs and some nice guitar solos. “Prioritized Security” has one of the solos. | |
The vocals on this whole album sound really brutal and cool. One song I want to mention in particular in this review and that’s number nine of the album, “Transient”, this song starts with an acoustic guitar and it must be mixed perfect because when it goes over in heavy guitar work it sounds like the acoustic guitar changed in an electric guitar and when the guitar player gets a wet dream at the end of this song it is the opposite.
Instil recorded the album in Germany at the “Tonmeisterei” studio and it is mastered by the very popular Tue Madsen at the “Antfarm” studio in Denmark, where also “Born From Pain”, “The Haunted”, “Heaven Shall Burn” and a lot more good bands have mastered their album.
The artwork of this album is also great. I can’t remember when I ever had a CD with this kind of artwork.
If you like hardcore, metalcore or thrash metal you really need this album. If you ever have the chance go check them out live on stage it must be great. (Jeroen) |
