A new EP from these optimists from Boston. When their last cd “Outlaw Anthems” was released, I had doubts if there would ever be a new cd from these guys, cause of all the fights and rumours going on in the past. But inspite of that they recorded some more songs, and I have to admit: it’s quality again.
This EP is more melodic, and that is the big difference. Revenge On Society and Outlaw Anthems had some sort of a lost generation feeling to them. Pretty raw, just like the music.
A difference compared to the new stuff. Some catchy hooks and lyrics which have a lot of hope in them. “Live The Lie” or “My Jesus Mercy” are some examples of that.
The cd begins with a prayer by Rob. After that, another short song “Serenity” (30 seconds). | |
And then the EP really hits it off with 6 diverse songs. “Live The Lie” is about the hypocrisy in the hardcore scene (you know, the unity bullshit, straight edge indoctrination etc.). “City Boy” is about the junkies in the streets, the destruction process that they are going through.
So every song has it’s own story. But the best by far is “My Jesus Mercy”. One of the best songs Blood For Blood has ever recorded. It has a catchy guitar hook in it, some catchy song lines and desparate sounding lyrics. This is what Blood for Blood stands for, and I hope this is what Blood For Blood will stand for in the future. This EP, with beautiful artwork, deserves attention and a sequel in the shape of a full length.
