The Slovakian veteran death metallers of Dementor have been active in the scene since 1988. They started out as a death/thrash outfit in the vein of Death, Possessed, Kreator and Slayer. Nowadays no one from the original line-up is left, but long-time member Rene Blahusiak, who joined the band in 1991, still fights to keep the band alive, despite numerous line-up changes.

The band released a first demo in 1993, featuring fast anti-Christian death metal. Judging this description little has changed in eleven years because their latest release brings us just the same. Singer Rene sounds almost the same as Peter from the mighty Vader and the music can be categorised in the same sub genre.

European death metal with a lot of Slayeresque soloing.

Although it might sound as if I consider them the Slovakian Vader, there are also differences, Dementor is more brutal, more primitive than Vader and the tracks aren’t as memorable as the songs of the Polish death metal legends. Some similarities with Brazilian Krisiun are also audible, like for instance the ongoing pummelling of the drums and the insane speed of the riffs. God Defamer is a brutal, good piece of death metal but not groundbreaking in its genre.
