This is what it says on the cover of the album and frankly there’s no better way to describe it: “Yeah, we know this isn’t our new album. This is just a bunch of covers that we suckered Eulogy (their American record company) into putting out...” I would like to stress the word `suckered`. The band must have had a lot fun recording the tracks but unfortunately it doesn’t add anything to their repertoire, nor will it add anything to your record collection.
In the vein of Ensign’s Hate The Kids, Love The Music Evergreen Terrace also released a cover album with the appropriate title Writers Block. Now, Ensign covered tracks that had an influence on the hardcore the band play themselves; all of them classics in their own right. | |
Evergreen Terrace did not, or at least it doesn’t seem that way. “Maniac” does not sound like an influential song to me. Nor does “Mad World” by Tears For Fears. Are there any punk or hardcore covers on Writers Block? Yes, there’s an Operation Ivy song on it and a few more like NOFX and the Offspring...
So why release this rehearsal room fun? I have no idea. I truly enjoyed Ensign’s tribute to classic hardcore and punkrock. I hardly enjoyed this obsolete release. Ignore it and wait for the new album. (Marc) |
