Will you believe me if I tell you that it took me like a week before to start configuring my review of this release?! The thing is that these dudes from Genova, Italy appeared to be the most generous band I`ve come across ever, when it comes to supplying a reviewer with information, and this information turned out to deal with music so unpredictable and insane!!! Or this, dear reader, is a DOUBLE album + a CD-ROM containing Gothic`s biography and discography, band photos and 1 video! Exhaustive, huh?! Don`t get me wrong though - I`m always glad to give more unconventional stuff a listen, and Gothic definitely are an unconventional band themselves! What their music is about is an utterly bizarre and chaotic mixture of melodies referred to the gothic / dark wave / electro / industrial genres. | |
The atmosphere is befittingly obscure, and this juxtaposed to chaos and insanity is a hell of a combination but, on the other hand, Gothic are yet to achieve the pliancy that to make their unstandardness really attractive, instead of making the listener feel like s/he is about to stumble somewhere in between the electro beats and the guitar riffs... Then again, experimenting is the key to progress, Gothic appear to have comprehended this, so I wish them good luck in the future! (Vanya) |
