The Demo cd New Shoes by Dutch popular rock band Kelvin Zhero features four tracks. Opener “Bumpy Road” is a logical choice since it shows the most popular side of the three piece band. The vocals and melodies sound like a combination of early Radiohead melodies and Coldplay vocals. The song sounds familiar at first listening, and that is probably intended. The following track “Amazing Discoveries” shows a more heavy side of the band, with its roots in the metal scene. The sound is good, considering that this is just a demo, but it could have been slightly more dynamic.
New Shoes is the latest effort of Kelvin Zero and again shows a totally different side of the band. Atmospheres and melody are the basis of the song. | |
At moments the song is a little bit lame and predictable but the sound itself seems to suit the band fine. The transition to the more up tempo closing section of the song deserves a little bit more attention.
New Shoes is not a bad demo, but I can’t suppress the feeling that some songs deserve a little bit more work. Kelvin Zhero is playing safe and is therefore too predictable and even boring. The best song on the demo is the final track “All Comes Down”, a well structured track where the band shows more balls. If all tracks on the album were of this high level the rating would have been at least two how points higher! (Geert) |
