If I have to believe the info sheet that accompanied this demo cd, it took Dutch rock band Cooper a couple of months to compose, arrange and rehearse this five track demo. Listening to the opening track “Music From The Heart” I get the feeling that this could have been done in one or two days as well. All you have to do is combine some of the nice things that Tom Petty, World Party and Bon Jovi have written and make some lyrics. This is a very disappointing opener.
The following tracks bring more excitement. “Who Is The One?” and “Backward Glace” both start out promising with good rhythms and nice keyboard arrangements. “Backward Glace” is the better of the two though. This is the first time that Cooper show true originality and are more daring. | |
The song is followed by the ballad “Angel”. The multiple vocal melodies are a bit too sweet for my personal taste, but the sound of the song is quite impressive. This is not a bad ballad! The final track “Let Me Out!!" is again something completely different and at times makes you wonder whether you’re still listening to one and the same band.
“Your Trip Begins Here...” is a little bit awkward. Cooper explores all kinds of different approaches without truly defining their music. “Backward Glace” is a very good song, but listening to the opener track makes me never want to listen to Cooper ever again. This is a strange band with a rather strange demo cd. (Geert) |
