Black Cross is a band from Louisville in the United States. Formally known as Black Widows but after hearing there was another band with the same name (not the progressive rock band from England ca. 1969, but a band who never even released anything) they changed it. In my opinion, black in the name of a band very popular, take bands as: "Black Flag", "Black Friday `29", Black Cat Music" and more of that kind of stuff. So the name is not so original, but that`s not the important thing of making music. The most important thing is making good music and give good live shows.
Black Cross has the sound of bands like "Give Up The Ghost", "Rites Of Spring" and "Black Flag" (also Black in the name), so it sounds oldschool punk/ hardcore.
Widows Bloody Widows almost made up of songs that were released before on EP`s, 7"`s and a lot of other stuff they released. | |
There is one unreleased song on the album, that`s "House Of Light" number twelve on the album. I don`t know if it`s a new song or they just never released the song.
On the back of the album cover you can read there are twelve songs, in the biography I received I read there are fourteen songs, on the actual album there are thirteen songs. This is a bit confusing.
The first song "Roll Up Your Sleeves" really hits you in the face with the oldschool sound. I can`t tell you much more about the rest of the songs because all the songs do have the same sounds but that`s normal in this kind of genre.
If you don`t know Black Cross yet and you like this kind of music it is really a must have, Personally I think this is kind of band you have to see live. The music is great, but on CD it is mostly disappointing. (Jeroen) |
