2 minutes into this album and I’m already hearing a plethora of influences. Musically I’m hearing a sort of watered down Pitchshifter meets an even more watered down NIN. Vocally I’m reminded of the distorted vocals of Pitchshifter’s JS Clayden and that talk/rap style of that dude from ill Nino... (whose name escapes me ).
However this album is very much a rollercoaster ride, right now I cant get 3 of their songs out of me head, yet the rest of the songs have disappeared into the back of mind (to take its place next to things like a geography class I had in 1993 and the exact location of where I put my car keys back in 2000). Which I find strange because 3 good songs on an album usually tempts me into having a really good listen to the rest of it, this time however, it’s not happening.
The 3 tracks that stand out are “ProTest”, “Empte”, and “Use-less”. The latter track featuring guest appearances from none other than Danny “I am lord and master” Carey on drums and static-‘s Wayne Static helping out on vocals. These tunes have rasping riffs coupled with innovative beats that puts a smile on your face.
But the fun stops there, everything good in the album is contained in those 3 tracks. | |
The rest just sounds like middle of the road default industrial noise. It seems like they put everything they had into the above mentioned tracks and went on the piss after that. The listener is bombarded with every industrial effect on every instrument until your ears bleed. Almost every riff/effect/tune is recognisable from previous industrial releases. It was like their idea was to fill the album with every positive aspect of industrial bands over the last decade and hope that it works, well, it doesn’t. Track 5, “Neuworld”, contains 5 fucking minutes of a distorted voice saying “ New world order” with every possible tweak/effect/addition applied to it that’s humanly possible... it was round this time that I got a serial killer like eye-twitch... Not good.
I’m sure the “less is more” approach would have worked better for this album. The songs are so full of chops and changes that you don’t get a sense of flow or structure and hence they are sent to room 101 in my brain; a pity really, if only they’d have followed suit from the other 3 tracks...
