Japanese people are crazy. Look at their movies, their comics, their cities and you know that it isn`t a lie. The Mad Capsule Markets hail from Japan, and even though I had never heard from them they have already spat out a whole bunch of albums onto the unsuspecting masses. And ofcourse, they are the best proof of my previously made statement you can think of.
Sounding like an English band pur sang, Osc-Dis offers various songs in a wide variety of styles (and thus sounds more like a best-of album, or for that matter a compilation album). The common demeanor is punk, which isn`t strange considering all Japanese people are taken in with this genre. But opener "Tribe" covers the `what-if-Ministry-made-punk` question, while "Pulse" sounds like the Sex Pistols are having a reunion party. | |
Together with some sample-work and some small drum`n`bass and noise-pieces, we are given the grand tour which takes us past Chemlab ("Multiplies"), the Offspring ("Island") and some hard tekno sounds (in "Restart!" and "Mob Track").
Weird, indeed. Incoherent as well, but the high entertainment factor doesn`t let that bother you too much. Osc-Dis has some very good moments and some considerably less ones, but altogether I can safely state that it`s a safe purchase for anyone who likes industrial and punk. The album also comes with a video, which you should see for yourself to believe. (Xander) |
