Yeah! What we’ve got here is a killer release from a Dutch death metal band. Slow harmonic pieces are combined with real heavy stuff. Some of the parts sound a bit doomy because of the keyboards and the slow guitars, but I like those parts because they remind me of Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride in some way. The first song (‘Promised Land’) sounds a bit like old Morbid Angel to me, it has some great harmonics.
Disconsolate started in 1998 with former members of Embrace The Darkness. After a couple of line-up changes things finally took off in 1999 and the band started with some serious song writing. Feeling the band was complete, the guys started touring with bands like Reborn, Exxor and Dew Scented. | |
After the recording of a demo (‘Dreaming… Longing… Dying…’) and a live album (‘Live @ Your Own Risk’) the band had another series of gigs with bands like Orphanage, Severe Torture and again Dew Scented.
Lyrically the MCD isn’t typically death metal. It’s not about chopping heads of a body or about slicing someone into pieces. In my opinion the lyrics are pretty political and somewhat personal. I like that; it lends the music some depth.
The production of this MCD is actually pretty good for this kind of music. The drums are good and the guitars sound low but clear. My only point of criticism are the vocals, the grunts could be a bit deeper and lower. But apart from that, it’s a great release! (Lars) |
