U.S. God Lives Underwater recorded “Up Off The Floor” four years ago. Due to the fact that their former record company went under, the album was never released, until now. At first listening it’s rather difficult to determine what it is that makes the songs on the album pop-driven. Your attention is mostly drawn by the experimental sounds and the far from ordinary vocals of writer David Reilly, which suits some songs better than others. After the record is finished it’s obvious that the music is quite catchy. | |
This is due to the strong rhythms, the popular guitar hooks and the straight forward rock structure. The mix between conservative-popular and experimental-alternative is perfectly developed; neither takes the overhand. The only real poppy song on the album is “Whatever You’ve Got”, a song that would do fine as a single. “Up Off The Floor” is a surprising release, something different and worth checking out.
