What can you expect from a Metal Blade release? Well, METAL of course. That’s what you get with Impious from Sweden (where else). This band has been around for 10 years now. Hellucinate is there fourth album, and to be honest, the first time I’ve ever heard of this band. I love their mixture of death and thrash done the Scandinavian way. From the first minute bands like The Haunted, The Crown, Testament, At The Gates and Nile come to mind, and that’s not an insult I would say. It’s actually a big compliment. In 39.09 minutes (to be exact) Impious blast 10 songs out of your speakers. No mid-tempo here; Hellucinate is a high speed album. Melodic raging thrash guitars, vocals pretty similar to The Haunted, unstoppable drums and a killer production.

Only during “Suicide Park” (the last song) the band slows down to end the album in a mid tempo outro kind of way. The flood of great Scandinavian bands just doesn’t seem to stop; it must be the drinking water over there. With this album Impious proves to be a worthy follow-up to The Crown and At The Gates who left their marks on the scene and still influence thousands of bands. Maybe Impious is not the most original band in the world. I got to say that it all has been done before but this album just rocks so I don’t really care. If you like your metal the Scandinavian way with some Bay Area thrash influences, Hellucinate is certainly an album you will appreciate.
