Phew, this is a tough one. As noticeable elsewhere on this site, I’m no connoisseur of death metal. On the other hand, I know what I like and what I don’t like. And that’s a nice start. At least, that’s what one would expect. The information sheet that came along with the promo is talking of the band as if it’s one of the founders of death metal. I don’t know much of death metal, but I do know that a band which is formed in 1989 cannot be a founder of death metal. Nice to know is that Incantation hired bands that are more famous now, as their support act in the early days. Nile, Absu, Pungent Stench, Kataklysm, Decapitated; they all were a support band for Incantation.

Musically I would say it’s a mixture of Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse.

But then again, which old school death metal band doesn’t sound like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse. Even though it’s not the most original kind of death metal, it sounds pretty good though. 11 songs and a bonus track blast from your speakers at high volume. A point of criticism is that the songs are all alike. Nice intro, some hacking and shredding, a new riff, then a slow part and then towards the end it’s all about high speed death metal.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely not bad what these three guys are doing. It’s just not as original as I expected. It’s just a piece of old school US-style death metal. Love it or hate it!
