In 1999 Frölén was the only original member of the black metal band In Battle. On his own he started writing material for In Battle’s third album. In 2002 he found a drummer and one year later (2003) they recorded, after he found some other musicians, an MCD called “Soul Metamorphosis”. The sound of this MCD was more death thrash metal than the black metal sound of In Battle. In that same year Metal Blade signed the band and the future seems to be better than in 1999, when Frölén was still on his own.
So this was a short introduction of the death thrash metal from In Battle. Their first album on Metal Blade Records is named “Welcome To The Battlefield”. The album is recorded in several studios all over Sweden and a little bit all over the world. For example the drums are recorded in the Courthouse Studio in Östersund, Sweden, while there are some other parts of the album recorded in Tampa, Florida. So I don’t think they cut down on the expenses of this album. | |
So let’s get to the music, personally I don’t know this band all that well since I’ve never heard any of their other albums. “Welcome To The Battlefield” is a typical thrash metal album with some mosh parts. “Serpents” on the other hand starts with a slow and heavy guitar which lasts the whole song. This is the only song that is slightly different from the rest of the material. The others are typical death thrash metal tracks. If you don’t know how thrash metal sounds by now then you probably don’t want to know either. A little bit different than other metal bands is the design of the album cover; it illustrates some army colours and some helicopters in black on the background. On the right of the cover, which I don’t think you can see, are small pictures of battlefields. To conclude: “Welcome To The Battlefield” is just another metal album; it has really nothing to differentiate it from other bands. (Jeroen) |
