Holland’s oldest extreme metal band Thanatos returns to the battlefield with their new album Undead.Unholy.Divine and a glorious return it is! While their previous album Angelic Encounters suffered a bit from the urge to release an album as quickly as possible (weak production, no killer songs, sloppy playing) this new release is a death thrash masterpiece. Although being twenty years old Thanatos sounds as eager as any young band. Incredible catchy songs like "Eraser" (with guest vocals by Gorefest/Ayreon drummer Ed Warby), "The Sign Of Sadako" and the re-recorded "Beyond Terror" prove that Thanatos still have some stamina left. The replacement of Angelic Encounters drummer Aad Kloosterwaard (ex-Sinister, ex-Houwitser) by Yuri Rinkel (Liar Of Golgotha) proved to be a wise decision.

Yuri’s drumming is more complex than Aad’s and gives Thanatos an edge over other death thrash bands.

Formed by Stephan Gebedi in 1984, Thanatos have seen the rise and fall of death metal in the beginning of the nineties, the rise and fall of black metal in the mid-nineties, and the rise of U.S. brutal death metal a couple of years ago. Yet, despite the trends they stubbornly continue to play their old-fashioned death thrash metal although a hint of modern death styles shines through sometimes.

Producer Attie Bouw has given Thanatos their best sound to this date and this, combined with the catchy song writing, should be enough to make Undead.Unholy.Divine the most successful album in their long history.
