Writing a review of a compilation promotion album is always a bit strange. This ‘Guitar Center’ released by Mascot Records is no exception. Most of the songs on the disc are taken from albums we have already reviewed on our site so there is not much information to add here.

The obvious reason for releasing this compilation is ‘to spread the word’. This is the main reason why the disc will be sold within the budget price range, for less than 6 Euro’s (that’s close to giving it away!). ‘Guitar Center’ features 15 guitarists among who Steve Morse, Michael Schenker, Paul Gilbert and Marty Friedman.

The style of the players is quite diverse, something I like since most solo guitar albums start interesting but become really boring in the end because of the lack of variation. There’s rock, fusion and even some blues on this one and most of it is of pretty high quality.

The only thing that keeps me wondering is why Mascot still releases these kinds of compilation albums since it seems much more easier to take these fifteen tracks and put them on the Mascot homepage for people to download them.
