About a year ago I was baffled by ‘Présages’ the excellent second album by French progressive rock band Nemo. Early November their third album will see the light of day. This album is called ‘Prélude à La Ruine’ and ‘Eve Et Le Genie Du Mal’ is the first single release from it. It’s hard to get an indication what the album is going to be like listening to this single since the extra three tracks are one cover ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’, one remix from the previous album and an English version of ‘Lóeil Du Cyclope’. To start with the latter, Nemo should stick to their native language.

Not because of the annoying accent but simple because the vocal melodies suit the music much better in French. In the Beatles cover the horrible accent is almost funny, bringing ‘Allo Allo’ in mind. ‘Eve Et Le Genie Du Mal’ is sort of a ballad starting out with an atmospheric base and ending with a rather intense outburst. The moving vocals remind a bit of by Patrick Bruel an easy comparison for someone without a clue about the French music scene. If Nemo has decided upon a more atmospheric approach on their upcoming album, ‘Prélude à La Ruine’ might me something special.
