This Norwegian outfit delivers one hell of a metal album and but rarely do you find a European power metal band that sounds as mature as this bunch. What Should Not Be is classic in every way of the word and sounds more American than European to be honest. Featuring fast paced and melodic tracks with excellent high vocals Seventh One join the ranks of other great European power metal acts like Brainstorm and Symphorce. This is simply a pleasure for the ears of fans of old school power metal. If you are into that dull Stratovarius or Hammerfall type of power metal, you might want to move on; this is most likely nothing for you.

What Should Not Be is apparently already Seventh One’s second album and unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of hearing their debut called Sacrifice.

Not really a wonder considering the fact that Norway is hardly the place for quality power metal. The most surprising aspect of this album is the guitar work. Normally I am not a big fan of guitar solos but Seventh One deliver a few jewels on this album. Add to that Rino’s excellent and varied vocals and you have a recipe for a good album.

Seventh One offer a good mixture of speed, melody and aggression and my only real point of criticism involves repetition. Some songs drag on slightly too long, repeating the same chorus all over and I would have liked to see Seventh One tighten up their songs a bit more. Nevertheless, What Should Not Be is an excellent album that I can highly advice to anyone who is into classic power metal.
