Eyes Of Shiva is yet another new power metal act but unlike most new bands they aren’t hailing from Europe but from Brazil instead. A promising start I’d say however that start quickly turned sour. Eyes Of Soul is so predictable it makes my ears bleed. Right from the very first song it is pretty clear that these Brazilians are pretty much rehashing material from Rhapsody, Angra and Stratovarius to just name a few.
The thing is that Eyes Of Soul really sounds pretty decent with a heavy production, good vocals and decent melodies. It is just that I’ve heard it all about a million times before. The real low point of this album is the beginning of the fourth track during which the band is doing a perfect imitation of Rhapsody; bombastic keyboards and choir like vocals. | |
You know the drill. There are already enough Rhapsody clones out there, we seriously don’t need one more.
I’m sorry but no matter how good this album might sound I just cannot listen to this inspirationless music. Granted, there are some Brazilian folk parts on this album but not nearly enough to diversify this band from the rest of the mediocre power metal masses. Eyes Of Soul is a promising debut album that at least shows that this band has talent. Now we will have to wait and see will they make the next step and deliver an album that deserves its own spot in the power metal scene. Who knows, the ingredients are there but in its current mixture it’s bland and tasteless. (Frank) |
