Hehe, it certainly has been a month of strange CDs, firstly Next Waste Dimension’s take on dance/metal and now these bunch of crazy bastards invade my CD-player! Wednesday 13 was/is the lead singer for FDQ, who in turn fronted the now very popular Murderdolls (with Joey Jordanson on guitars), which in turn gave FDQ a cult status and spawned this “best of” release.
First thing to catch my eye is on the back cover, not the crazy getup of the band photographed but the name of their record label: “I used to fuck people like you in prison- records”, they certainly win label of the year award. So after recovering from a fit of laughter I popped the CD in to see whether the music is as cool as the label name.
With track titles such as “Your Mother Sucks Cocks In Hell” I detected a hint of the Anal Cunt approach to songs (see “I Became A Counsellor Just So I Could Tell Rape Victims They Were Asking for It” for further details!) Their whole music approach is luckily not as ridiculous as the AC boys. | |
Vocals, while not of a too serious nature are upbeat and catchy while the music follows suit, reminding me of early White Zombie meets a polite Marylin Manson. Never do the songs become boring or predictable and to my own surprise I found my leg jigging along to the music at alarming regularity!
Songs that stand out are “Kung Ku You, “The Wolfman Stole My Baby” and “Planet Of The Apes”. I’d check this album out if I were you. It has a refreshingly happy beat to the music and isn’t as overpowering as some modern day gloom and doom. (Mark) |
