When I first saw the cover of this CD I was not very eager to put this cd in my player. I mean, this horrible red-orange cover, this terrible band name, the amateurish font and guys wearing sunglasses (I know, because the corny name of the band); all did not exactly promise anything good. If I were to see this album in any record store I would surely keep my money in my pocket.
The nice thing of being biased only by the album’s appearance is the surprise when you discover the gem inside. And let’s face it; it’s all about the silver disc, and not the appearance, let alone the name of the band.
Hideous Sun Demons is the self titled debut of the David Lee Roth band. It features twelve instrumental tracks in a wide range of styles. | |
I was most impressed by the way all instruments are equal in the compositions as well as in the mix. This is what usually annoys me when I’m listening to an instrumental solo album but on Hideous Sun Demons there is simply no dominant instrument.
This band has vowed to stake their claim in the musically high tech world inhabited by such musical super heroes as Liquid Tension Experiment, Niacin and Bozzio Levin Stevens. I must say that they have succeeded. If I had to compare Hideous Sun Demons with the aforementioned bands I must say that these Demons are a little less experimental and more melodic / song oriented; something that is more to my personal liking.
