Caliban signed for a major record label and they deserved it. After five great albums at Lifeforce Records they were ready to take the big step to a major label.
Unfortunate is the sound difference compared to the first album, the double base sounds like Killswitch and the songs sometimes even more so, maybe it is because they did a tour with Killswitch or they are big fans of this band. The sound of the album is in line with their last Lifeforce album (Shadowhearts), so it’s not a bad thing that they are changing.
Andreas Dörner is singing more, and cleaner than before, the rest of the music is still aggressive and good sounding metalcore. | |
Songs like “Senseless Fight”, “100 Suns”, “I‘ve Sold Myself” are still aggressive and have some good mosh parts.
The Opposite From Within is produced and mixed very well, that’s what you can expect if you hire guys like Anders Friden (In Flames) and Andy Sneap (Machine Head).
With this album Caliban put themselves in the highest region of metalcore bands in Europe and maybe on this planet. Caliban is this moment on tour with Machine Head and God Forbid, so check out their website ( www.calibanmetal.com) to see this great band live! (Jeroen) |
