Orange County has always been a breeding place for musical bands which possess a lot of talent, like Ignite, Lit, Atreyu and Bleeding Through. Scars Of Tomorrow are also from Orange County and it’s this band where this review is all about (how surprising).
After releasing All Things Change they toured all over the United States (with Norma Jean, Bleeding Through, From Autumn To Ashes etc.). After this tour, they were hit by a few line up changes and decided to make Design Your Fate. But it only got released in the United States. Now, they’ve re-release that cd on the European market; a wise decision, because it seems there never has been as much attention for metalcore as nowadays. The star of bands like Caliban, From Autumn To Ashes, Norma Jean, Walls of Jericho and Unearth is rising, and there is a market for it, what makes touring possible, and all of these bands have at least one thing in common: a great intense live show. | |
I think Scars Of Tomorrow is a band that can challenge the aforementioned bands, although they are somewhat heavier. It has more brutal vocal strains, and the music is more metal than hardcore. But do not take this too literally! There is still a great hardcore feeling to this record which you can also notice on the last Caliban cd.
A mixture of Mosh and Core. Not new, but pretty well done. There is a good combination of narrative vocals and screaming (“Rebirth”). The guitar riffs remind me of Walls Of Jericho and Unearth, but there are also some sporadic Isis influences. Like “This Autumn’s Bleeding” or the aforementioned “Rebirth”.
A great mosh cd, which will see lots of my Discman during the next few months. To wake me up in the morning. (Friso) |
