Yeah, hardcore from the British Isles! After waiting a long time, this MCD finally found my front door. And I can’t tell you how glad I am that this MCD is finally in my possession. Awoken, ladies and gentlemen, that’s the band I’m talking about.
Awoken formed at the start of 2003 and a year and a half later their debut MCD is released. And what a killer release it is. It’s aggressive hardcore with a little touch of metal, but it doesn’t go in the direction of metalcore. The sound is pretty old school to me and Madball, Sick Of It All and Hatebreed are probably big influences.
The production of this debut MCD is perfect for a hardcore band. | |
Hardcore doesn’t need a clear production mixed with Pro-Tools. I’d like to mention the vocals of Kris James, which are so brutal you’d expect him in a death metal band.
It’s a shame Take Aim is a MCD, I want more of this! I’m already looking out for the moment that these guys release a full-length. My personal favorites of this MCD are opener “Open Fire” and “Red Justice”.
So if you are into hardcore and you dig bands like Madball and Hatebreed, you should get this MCD! You won’t regret it! Or as Madball puts it: HARDCORE STILL LIVES! (Lars) |
