Finland; land of the thousand lakes and breeding ground of bands like Amorphis, Sentenced and Children Of Bodom. And once again a fabulous band from Finland arises, Callisto. Well, actually these youngsters (average age of 23) have been around for a couple of years now, but True Nature Unfolds is there first full-length release.
After a lot of spins in my cd-player, I still don’t know how to classify this band. And I’ve been listening to this album for some days now. Actually there are a lot of different musical influences; sometimes True Nature Unfolds has the intensity of death metal, but at another moment it has the modesty of jazz. | |
At times I hear a bit of Opeth in the music of these young Finnish guys, but more at an atmospheric kind of level. Well, here we are, I still don’t know how to explain and classify this album.
It’s a fact though that this album really rocks! The balance between intensity and modesty is perfect in my opinion and some of the songs are preceded by some impressive soundscapes.
So, while still not knowing how to classify this, I can tell you one thing: get this album! It’s one hell of a debut! (Lars) |
