Ah oui, un peu de métal noir from France. At first, let me tell you that this is the first time I have heard some music of Anorexia Nervosa. Of course I’ve come across the band many times, but for some reason the band never attracted my attention. Well, here we are; many years later I’m writing a review for this French band.
And do you want to know my first reaction after a couple of spins of Redemption Process? Why the hell is this band not as well-known as Dimmu Borgir or Cradle Of Filth? That’s it! I really don’t get it; Anorexia Nervosa is musically at least in the same league as Dimmu and Cradle. Perhaps these Frenchies don’t want to be as well-know as other black metal bands, I don’t know and actually I don’t really care.
What I DO know is that I really love this album! I’ve been listening to Redemption Process for a couple of days now and it doesn’t bore me. | |
Actually, the more I listen to it, the better it gets. The production of this album, which is recorded in the band’s own Drudenhaus Studio, is crystal clear. And what I like most about this album, are the brilliant orchestrations combined with killer guitar riffs and blasting drums. Those combined factors give the band a more mature sound without making commercial concessions. In my opinion this is one of the best, or maybe THE best album within the symphonic black metal genre.
For people who don’t know Anorexia Nervosa, but are interested in the symphonic black metal genre, this is a great cd to start with. For the old Anorexia Nervosa fans, this is a great album that should be in the Anorexia Nervosa collection! (Lars) |
