God Dethroned is back! After releasing classic albums like “The Grand Grimoire” and "Bloody Blasphemy” the band of frontman Henri Sattler was at risk for becoming too predictable and repetitive. Well, “The Lair Of The White Worm” is an album in the tradition of God Dethroned but with a newfound aggression and brutality that will be a kick to the head to many fans.
Furious tracks (“Sigma Enigma” and “Nihilism”) are combined with epic tracks like “Rusty Nails” (about the crucifixion of a certain Jew) and “Arch Enemy Spain” (about the eighty-year war Holland fought with Spain and the assassination of the prince of Nassau).
On “The Lair Of The White Worm” the band goes back to its roots but at an even higher level. | |
Henri didn’t receive the nickname “Serpent King” without reason, he never sounded more vicious and angry. New guitar player Isaac Delahaye is a great addition to God Dethroned due to his marvelous leads.
Undoubtly the best track, and for me reason enough to buy the album even if the rest would contain rubbish, is “Loyal To The Crown Of God Dethroned”, an instant crowd-pleaser with an unbelievable, catchy chorus.
With “The Lair” God Dethroned consolidates and expands its position as the number one death/thrash band of the Netherlands. The sound is better than ever and the tracks are stronger than even the ones on “The Grand Grimoire” which was my favorite GD until now.
