The Nucular Library is a band/ project from Canada. The story behind this band is one to hear (or in your case read). In 1991 this project started, or better some music was written. In that time the band consisted of only two brothers, Aaron Granville-Martin and Ryan Granville-Martin. Aaron on guitar and some vocals and Ryan drums, bass and also some vocals. After moving to Toronto in 1995 and in 1998 to North York they started to record this album. Some people were added to the band. In 2000 the band broke up and everybody went in different directions. But the inevitable happened; Aaron left us for the “great gig in the sky”. Ryan wrote some numbers about this experience and Aaron left him the poem “Strange Gift”. After a few years Ryan and some old band member thought it would be nice to make a tribute to Aaron, but also a tribute to the dream that spanned a decade of their lives. So all the old tracks were taken from the roof and they took the dust off of them. | |
The songs were transferred into a digital format and put on a CD.
If you know the history of this album you can understand that this album doesn’t have the best sound, these are old recordings; recorded in living rooms. But it is a sensitive and varied album.
This album starts with a heavy instrumental song. The second track is also pretty heavy but now with vocals, but the fourth (“Slowdive”) is an acoustic song. This one was written by Ryan after the death of his brother Aaron. The last song on the album is “Strange Gift”, which has the words of the poem Aaron left Ryan.
This is not a typical metal album; there are some nice metal tracks but also some very beautiful slow songs. Very nice album, maybe this project can get a continuation. If you want to know how you can get this album send mail to thenucularlibrary@hotmail.com. (Jeroen) |
