On the whole, I wouldn’t say that Alix shines with anything peculiar, with the exception that it is the first time that I’m coming across a stoner rock band with a female fronter!!! Otherwise, this Italian act was founded in 1995, and Ground is their fourth CD. Which, by the way, is supposed to be the first one with English lyrics (in this order of thoughts, I’m really curious to hear how the Italian language sounds, as combined with inebriating stoner riffs...). Not a bad release, I think - straightforward and plain in construction, the 9 tracks on Ground contain that oblivious mellowness which most desert rock-referred outfits are known for.

And the vocals of Alice Albertazzi fit the overall picture pretty fine with their catchiness and feminine power. Then again, if I ever end up being in the mood of giving anything like this a listen, I would prefer filling my ears with the ponderous riffs of High On Fire instead. Bands Alix has shared the stage with so far are such as Guano Apes, Primal Scream, Rage Against The Machine and Muse. Yet another radiant moment in Alix’ career as yet is their last year’s appearance as supporters of The Hidden Hand - the new project of St Vitus Wino!
