Now this is pretty special. It seems to me that Roadrunner Records got back their gift to scout talent, because Blood Oath by Frankenbok is a really nice album. When I received the album I thought it might be some lame-ass black metal band, because of the album title and the name of the band. Surprisingly, it wasn’t. I hear you guys think: come on Lars, tell us, what kind of music is it. Well… beats me.

And after a couple of spins I still don’t know what kind of music it is. I do know that I like this album. It shows a great diversity of songs and the vocal range of singer Adam B. Metal (it’s his REAL name!) is great.

He sometimes reminds of Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory when he is barking the more brutal parts. But sometimes Frankenbok reminds me of a mix between Faith No More (vocal wise) and Slipknot (music wise) and that is not a bad thing you know, because Slipknot proved with their last album they’re capable of some pretty decent song writing.

Don’t get me wrong though; me mentioning Slipknot doesn’t mean that Frankenbok should be categorized as a nu-metal band, because they’re not. Personally I think it’s a good mix between some thrash, metalcore and some groovy kind of metal. Buy or bloody die!
