Cancelled’s (from Amsterdam) newest effort is this 5-track self produced promo. The style could be described as nu-metalish, and compared to bands like Tool, Coal Chamber and Ill Nino. The songs sound pretty well thought out, they are catchy at times. A song like “Heavens End” could maybe even have some hit-potential (with a more brutal production). The only problem that I have with Cancelled is that they don’t really have their own sound or style. Cancelled is more a copy of what has been done so many times before. Like other nu-metal bands Cancelled has a low tuned guitar sound, mid-tempo rhythms and a diverse singer who sings, screams and grunts.

Some of the vocal parts are just too similar to those of Tool and Mike Patton. This album doesn’t really surprise me nor blows me away. If you’re really into nu-metal you’ll have no problems with my critical notes, because Cancelled is a good Dutch band. They’ve proven this by accomplishing shows at the Rock-am-Ring, Rock Im Park and Fields of Rock festivals. You can proof me wrong by checking out www.cancelled.com.
