Well well. The new Hopesfall. After ‘Hopesfall’and ‘Satellite Years’ , this is their third album. I was curious about this album, `cause I always thought Hopesfall was a band with a large potential. Hardcore elements mixed with an indie feel with riffs that would be appropriate on a At The Drive-In album.

This CD is different. Let me put it this way: the main comparison with the last records is that their artwork is still great. Musically, they decided to say hardcore goodbye and switch more to the postcore-side. After one or two listenings you won’t like this record and it’s easi to state your opinion how crappy this album is. But what I felt in the beginnen was right: this album has to grow and grow and if it’s a few times in your player, you will listen to this record over and over again.

If there is one band you can compare Hopesfall to, it’s Swedish emorockers Blindside. They also use some Deftones riffs mixed with an modern emo-touch. And Hopesfall also have the wide-ranged vocal lines. The danger with this kind of music is often that it gets too safe, but that isn’t the issue with Hopesfall. They still use some strange technical guitar riffs and there are a lot of dynamics, like in ‘Start And Pause’, and ‘Breathe from Coma’.

Hopesfall maybe did a step back, but also two steps forward. Now the fans have to accept they went this way, but if you do, you get a good CD for it in trade.
