There was a time where I bought compilation albums. But that was long, long ago. At some point I failed to see the purpose of compilation albums, especially so called `Best Of` CD’s. The fact that there is nothing in the music business that is more commercial than releasing a Best Of album (or a compilation album where the choice of songs on it is made by the cost price of the songs). Even the record companies do not know who buys these albums. That is the reason why these single disc compilations are usually accompanied by a disc with bonus material that you won’t be playing in your CD-player more than once!

This Edguy compilation isn’t any different from any other. Disc one features 13 `Best Of` Edguy songs and disc two features some un-released ‘specials’ and three live tracks (the cheapest way of filling disc two). There are also two video’s included, the clip of `All The Clowns` and a live video of `The Headless Game`.

Again: you’ll probably watch these only once.

There is however one nice feature on the compilation, all songs are accompanied with short liner notes by Sammett. To end this review I will give you an insight in the sales process of any compilation, this one in particular. “2-cd set for the price of 1 cd”, “Limited Edition”, “Includes lots of unreleased and rare bonus material, “includes two videos” and of course “24-bit digitally remastered” (like you can hear the difference after you’ve transferred the track to your MP3-player).

On a more positive side, the artwork looks great, the 24 pages of the booklet with photo’s, a time line, liner notes and lyrics is nice and the music is of course a pleasure to listen too, but let’s face it, if you’re a fan of Edguy, you don’t need this compilation and if you are unfamiliar with the bands work. You’re better of buying one or two of their studio cd’s.
