The first thing that came to mind whilst listening to Angelheart was the comparison of female vocalist Janet La Rose and pop rock vocalist Anastasia. She has the same intonation but less powerful and therefore her vocals are of lesser quality. It only took three or four tracks before Janet actually started to get on my nerves. The ah ohh’s and the yeah yeahh’s, the dominant sighing and the annoying backing vocals fill-ins, are all an expression of bad taste.
Luckily the music on Caution It Rocks is a lot better although the album title doesn’t give you the right reflection of what to expect. Caution It’s Catchy would have been a better title. | |
The excellent rhythm section and catchy guitar riffs form the solid basis on which most songs are built. I’ve read that this third album by this band has a heavier rock flavor than the previous two. This should be considered a good thing since the soft rock tracks are far inferior to the heaver ones. There is a huge contrast between the excellent “Maybe” and the following ballad “Wintersong” which is in one word horrible. I can only hope that the next Angelheart album will be in the vain of Maybe; more powerful. If not, I fear that this band will never escape from being mediocre, too bad because the band has potential. (Geert) |
