Torture Wheel is a side project of E.M. Hearst of the American band Wraith Of The Ropes. It is essentially a one man project although he received help on every release from Scarecrow Rottinghouse (vocalist / keyboardist from Wraith Of The Ropes). Three of the four tracks on this EP (45 minutes!) are a re-release from the 2003 split release with Uncertainty Principle. The fourth track, “Crushed Under..” was meant for a compilation tape by the UK based underground label Buried And Forgotten which was cancelled.

So, this basically is a quick and easy way for Firedoom Records to present Torture Wheel to a somewhat bigger public because they will release the debut full length in fall/early winter of this year.

The tracks on this “EP” are from different recording sessions and that is audible.

The first three tracks are situated in the realms of funeral/drone doom but the forth track is harsher, more metal and overall the strongest of the four and could be categorized into the industrial doom department.
All tracks have an absolute desolate atmosphere in common, the most important instruments are a drum computer and keyboards, the latter creating an ongoing wall of sound during which the drums play their steady slow rhythm, enshrined with scarce guitars and haunting screams. I don’t know what direction Torture Wheel will be heading on their full length but I hope it will be in the vein of the title track. In a few months we will find out.
