It’s hard writing album reviews if you’re not really into the genre. Take for example this double live album by Scott Henderson. First of all, I’m usually not very fond of releases by solo guitarists. Secondly, I’m not that fond of jazzy blues rock, especially not if the lead guitar is as high pitched as Henderson’s. So basically I don’t like the music. But, if I put my personal preferences aside, I must admit that this live album sounds pretty good. A powerful sound and a very clear mix, you might at times even get the impression that this live take was recorded in a studio (the show was actually recorded at La Ve Lee Jazz Club, Studio City, California).

The album features thirteen tracks, half of them instrumental and half of them with drummer Kirk Covington on vocals. John Humphrey the third musician of this illustrious trio plays the bass. Personally I prefer the instrumental tracks because of the lack of vocal quality. The info leaflet states that this live album will be a treat to the many fans who have experienced Scott, Kirk and John live. I can second that even though I don’t like the music at all.
