Well, this is a pretty good release. Der Ursprung is a decent album, pagan black metal style with a German edge. The band started in 1997 under the banner of Kreuzritter (Knight of the Cross), but after a couple of line-up changes the band changed their name in 2002. In that year they recorded their first demo Mysteria Germania, which was self produced. After another demo the band went into the studio in 2004 and recorded Der Ursprung.
What I noticed directly when I listened to this album, was the production which is actually very clear. The instruments are balanced and the vocals are definable. | |
And what I personally like about this album is the fact that it’s no blast fest; there are parts in which there is a violin (though it’s not always in key) and there are some laid back parts with some great guitar work.
With the exception of one song, this album is completely sung in German. And it doesn’t bother me at all. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Germany or its language, but sometimes German lyrics just don’t fit in with the music. Well, it does with this band. Well done! (Lars) |
