And yet again we have a band of which the name is based on the Tolkien saga ‘The Lord Of The Rings’. After brutal bands like Gorgoroth, Isengard, Cirith Gorgor, Sauron and even Burzum (to name just a few), Nazgul is another one to add to the list.

‘When The Wolves Return To The Forest’ was recorded in 2000 and released by Battlefield Records, but Nazgul were recently signed to Christhunt Productions and so the band chose to re-release their first album with altered artwork.

In addition to that, Nazgul added their 1997 demo ‘My Throne Of Winter’.
Although the production is a bit on the dull side (yeah I know, that’s a very important part of ‘true’ black metal), the music is actually pretty good and layered; just your average pagan black metal. An acoustic guitar here, a female with some high vocals there and of course the atmospheric keyboard parts. Not very original, but it works; for me it does anyway.
